Harley-Davidson Announces Recall Due to Faulty Breaks – Denver Motorcycle Accident Attorney

Tuesday, October 25th, 2011

Motorcycles are a very powerful and exciting means of transportation. It is easy to see the attraction people have towards motorcycles. A very popular brand in the motorcycle world has always been Harley-Davidson; so it is very surprising when Harley-Davidson announced a recall on some of their products. According to ConsumerReports.org, Harley-Davidson has recalled over 250,000 bikes due to faulty rear breaks and break lights. The recalled bikes include certain Touring, CVO Touring, and Trike motorcycles from model years 2009 through 2012. The breaks and break fluid is affected by the amount of heat from the exhaust of the bikes and causes unpredictable breaking issues. Being unable to stop when you grasp the break or breaking without pressing the break can lead to very dangerous motorcycle accidents. Harley-Davidson is initiating the recall at the end of October and will provide free service to install a new break light kit on the bikes.

Lakewood Man Dies in Motorcycle Crash – Denver Motorcycle Accident Attorney

Friday, September 10th, 2010

A 50-year-old man from Lakewood, Guy Petersen, has died from injuries sustained after his motorcycle collided with a pickup truck. According to The Denver Post, the driver of the pickup is a “Lakewood police officer who had just gotten off duty.” The accident occurred around 4 p.m. on Thursday afternoon at the intersection of West Mississippi Avenue and South Wadsworth Boulevard. The intersection is “extremely busy” at that time of day and there were several witnesses. At this time, the crash remains under investigation and the off duty officer has not been cited.

Riding motorcycles becomes more popular every year.  According to an article posted by the Insurance Information Institute, the rise in baby boomers reaching retirement has led to the increase in both the sales of motorcycles as well as the overall number of riders on the road. The sad fact associated with these numbers is that the overall number of fatal motorcycle accidents has also risen. In 2008, 5,290 people were killed in motorcycle accidents, the highest ever recorded number of fatalities in the US.

Nobody who rides a motorcycle expects to become another fatality statistic when they take up riding. Accidents, however, are a tragic part of riding. Pilot Program Hopes to Reduce Fatal Motorcycle Accidents – Denver Motorcycle Attorney

Monday, August 16th, 2010

The owner of a biker bar in Evergreen has teamed up with a local non-profit, DRIVE SMART, as well as CDOT and the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Department to launch a pilot program targeted at reducing fatal motorcycle accidents caused by drunk driving. Gary Mitchell, the owner of Cactus Jack’s Saloon, told 9News that he has lost three friends to motorcycle accidents over the last three years and wants to do something about it. Mitchell’s bar will be the first bar in the county to set aside a parking space for a pod, or shipping container, that will be used to lock up motorcycles. Any rider who has had too much to drink but would rather not leave their bike at the bar will be able to lock up their bike for free.

The same 9News article that reported the story on this pilot program reports that 40% of motorcycle fatalities in Colorado last year involved “a biker who had been drinking.” What’s more, Jefferson County, where the pilot program hopes to expand its biker bar pod program “is consistently one of the worst in the state when it comes to motorcycle fatalities.” The pod will be in the parking lot of Cactus Jack’s for the rest of the summer and DRIVE SMART hopes to setup pods in at least half-a-dozen biker bars by next summer.

Even without alcohol, motorcycle accidents occur. If you or someone you know has been injured in a motorcycle accident, you need an attorney who specializes in motorcycle accident cases.
